If you are looking at this, you have started to think that things could be better, and are considering asking for help in achieving this. That is a really good – and important – place to start.

What is counselling?

Counselling is an opportunity to explore how you are feeling in a safe place, without fear of judgement. The therapeutic environment and relationship is like no other. A lot of the time, people worry about upsetting or burdening those close to them with how they are feeling. However, sometimes the only way to get past how you are feeling is to stay with it, which can be a very daunting prospect, and challenging to do. As a counsellor, I am there to create this safe environment so that you feel able to both express your feelings, and sit with them, however difficult or upsetting they may be.

A lot of the time, if you can understand the reasons why you are feeling the way you are, then the feelings themselves change. It is not always this simple, but counselling gives you an opportunity to explore your feelings in detail to someone impartial who may be better placed to identify, and point out some of these reasons, if you are not able to do so yourself.
